Automated Recycling Update (6/18/10) -- From the City of Houston Solid Waste Dept: "We do not have an official waiting list for expansion of the green can recycling program. Our plan is to expand this program city-wide within the next 3-5 years and we will do so with savings and revenue realized from current programs such as Curbside/Automate Recycling, Compostable Bag and Tree Waste. Of course, we can speed this implementation process up should we be able to establish a dedicated funding source."
* Collection Schedules for Garbage, Recycling & Heavy Trash (Junk & Tree)
~~DID YOU KNOW if you want to get rid of tree branches and limbs, you don't have to wait until heavy trash collection?
Collectors will pick up tied bundles weighing less than 50 lbs. left curbside on your regular pickup day.
~~DON'T FORGET to use the new city approved biodegradable bags for yard waste (leaves, grass clippings, etc.).
The City won't pick up materials in regular plastic bags any more. You may get a sticker or you may get a ticket.
* Recycling Collection Schedules
~~TUESDAY B for Sections 1, 2, 3, 5, CCT-1, CCT-2, CCT-3
~~MONDAY B for CCE-2, CCE-3E & CCE3-W
* 2010 Holiday Collection Schedule

RECYCLEBANK REWARDS POINTS (2/10)
You may have received a letter from the City of Houston Solids Waste Management Department talking about RecycleBank Rewards points. This program is ONLY available to receiving automated recycling services (those using the big 96 gallon green cart in CCT-3).
If you have a cart, you may register for RecycleBank Rewards points by visiting www.Recyclebank.com and hit the "Sign In and Get Started" button to activate an account or call 888-727-2978 to get started. You can track your points and redeem them for product rewards and discounts.
Gary Readore from the City of Houston (and Sharpstown resident) says the City wants to take this program citywide and will do so as the budget allows. The landfill cost savings resulting from using the compostable bags should help speed up this process. Residents will be notified directly if and when authomated recycling is expanded.
