EL CORRAL NIGHTCLUB (at former Fingers Furniture location in Sharpstown Center/PlazAmericas)
LIQUOR LICENSE PROTEST HEARING: July 16 at 9:00 a.m. at the State Office of Administrative Hearings located at 2020 N. Loop West, Suite 111, 77018. This building is very difficult to find -- it's behind trees, so be on the look-out for the sign with the address.
NIGHTCLUBS & OTHER ESTABLISHMENTS ALONG CLAREWOOD & DASHWOOD
Attendees of SCA's May 27th General Membership meeting heard Marilyn Allen of the City of Houston Legal Department's Neighborhood Services Division speak about their ongoing efforts to close down problem businesses in the area. The City has closed several and is working to close several more establishments on Dashwood and Clarewood behind Sharpstown Center/PlazAmericas.
* LTC @ 7113 Clarewood (adult lingerie, videos & gifts)
* Miko Bath House @ 7130 Clarewood: No massage license
* Kahlua Disco @ 7633 Dashwood
* Cielo Azul (formerly Cristinas) @ 7600 Dashwood
* Costa del Sol @ 7102 Clarewood: No liquor license (renewal not filed)
* Magnolia's (Massage Parlor) @ 7603 Dashwood: closed in January; owner evicted tenant
* El Tucanazo Nightclub @ 7136 Clarewood: closed 3/10
The City attempts to work with property owners to evict nuisance tenants, but when those efforts fail, they file suit to close the establishments via the Nuisance Abatement Section of the Texas Civil Practices & Remedies Code. Several of these are likely to end up in court and the City needs the help of residents with firsthand knowledge of activities (gang activity, street racing, gunshots, fights, loud noise, fighting, etc.).
Many of these club owners are represented by so-called "Hospitality Lawyers" who try to fight every charge and accusation. Make no mistake, the success of closing Carnaval and preventing the opening of El Zorro was pushed over the top by vocal and concerned Sharpstown residents.
If you have firsthand eyewitness information about these establishments and their customers, contact SCA at (713) 789-2311, scaoffice@att.net or sharpstownscan@yahoo.com and we will get that info to the City Attorney. Be sure to include your name and address (proximity is key) and if you would be willing to testify at a trial.
We will receive notice of the hearings and trials, but it may be short notice and sometimes dates change. Look for updates at here at www.sharpstownscan.com.
